Evaluation Question Five

How did you attract/address your audience? We attracted our audience of 15-25 year olds by using people of the same age group and cultural background. We have used both males and female to attract all of our audience. The opening would mostly appeal to the females in our audience because the audience is meant to feel sympathetic to the female character. To attract our male audience in the opening we have a confident young man and a bit violence.

We have use red font colour in our opening titles. This is something that our audience will be audience will be familiar with because it a one of the conventions of horror. Familiarity is important in a film to attract the audience because it is something an audience will be comfortable with and it is something that they are expecting to watch and something that they will recognise.

The music in our film is an acoustic happy song. This is unusal to be in a horror film which I think would attract our audience. Here is a post I made on music in horror http://nyashaa.blogspot.com/2011/01/music-in-horror-genre.html. This is something that our audience will not be familiar with and it is something they will not be expecting. The reason why we decided to subvert to the stereotypical music in horror films was because it reduces the fear factor of the killing scene. We didn't want to terrify our audience in the first two minutes of the film, but we wanted them to feel tense and uneasy because the song is really happy but the visuals are of a killing scene. We were trying to achieve a contrast between the two and I think we have managed to do it well. Our inspiration for doing this was a scene we saw from American Psycho http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwicLgOGJOI
